CORONAVIRUS
WHAT
IS CORONO VIRUS ?
Coronaviruses are a family of
viruses known for containing strains that cause potentially deadly diseases in
mammals and birds.
In humans they're
typically spread via airborne droplets of fluid produced by infected individuals
like sneezing, cough, touching of infected personnel, relationship with
infected etc.
Some rare but
notable strains, including Wuhan coronavirus (2019-nCoV), and those responsible
for severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory
syndrome (MERS), can cause death in humans.
First described in
detail in the 1960s, the coronavirus gets its name from a distinctive corona or
'crown' of
sugary-proteins
that projects from the envelope surrounding the particle. Encoding the virus's
make-up is the longest genome of any RNA-based virus – a single strand of
nucleic acid roughly 26,000 to 32,000 bases long.
There are four
known genuses in the family, named Alphacoronavirus,
Betacoronavirus,
Gammacoronavirus,
and Deltacoronavirus.
The first two only infect mammals, including bats, pigs, cats, and humans. Gammacoronavirus mostly
infects birds such as poultry, while Deltacoronavirus
can infect both birds and mammals.
SYMPTOMS
OF CORONA VIRUSES:
It gives variety of
symptoms in different animals .
Diarrhoea and Bad
Cold in pigs & Turkeys.
WUHAN
CORONAVIRUS:
It was first
identified in the Chinese city of Wuhan in 2019, a number of infected people
and death was raising with a global alarming of spreading in various
continents.
In the case of
Wuhan Coronavirus Snakes have been suspted as a possible source for the
outbreak, though investigations are underway.
SEVERE
ACUTE RESPIRAROTY SYNDROME (SARS-COV)
It was first dected
in the year 2003 as a damage caused by coronavirus and the first infection was
in Guangdong of Chinese province in 2002. It spread over 26 countries with
approximate 8000 infections and 800 deaths (Figures are not approximate taken
from web source).
MIDDLE
EAST RESPIRATORY SYNDRONE (MERS-CoV)
It was identified
in Saudi Arabia during 2012, in which people started to suffer from fever,
cough shortness of breath and intestinal problems like diarrhea. No source of
animals have confirmed, but some point out that it was spread through camels.
However, the outbreak has spread over 27 countires with 2500 cases of infection
(Figures are not approximate taken from web source)
PREVENTIVE
STEPS FOR INFECTED PEOPLE:
STAY HOME EXCEPT TO
GET MEDICAL CARE
You should restrict
activities outside your home, except for getting medical care. Do not go to
work, school, or public areas. Do not use public transportation, ride-sharing,
or taxis.
SEPARATE YOURSELF
FROM OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR HOME
As much as
possible, you should stay in a specific room and away from other people in your
home. Also, you should use a separate bathroom, if available.
CALL AHEAD BEFORE
VISITING YOUR DOCTOR
If you have a
medical appointment, call the healthcare provider and tell them that you have
or may have 2019-nCoV infection. This will help the healthcare provider’s
office take steps to keep other people from getting infected or exposed.
WEAR A FACEMASK
You should wear a
facemask when you are around other people (e.g., sharing a room or vehicle) and
before you enter a healthcare provider’s office. If you are not able to wear a
facemask (for example, because it causes trouble breathing), then people who
live with you should not stay in the same room with you, or they should wear a
facemask if they enter your room.
COVER YOUR COUGHS
AND SNEEZES
Cover your mouth
and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw used tissues in a lined
trash can and wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If
soap and water are not available, immediately clean your hands with an
alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol, covering all
surfaces of your hands and rubbing them together until they feel dry. Soap and
water should be used preferentially if hands are visibly dirty.
CLEAN YOUR HANDS
Wash your hands
often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not
available, clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains
at least 60% alcohol, covering all surfaces of your hands and rubbing them
together until they feel dry. Soap and water should be used preferentially if
hands are visibly dirty. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with
unwashed hands.
AVOID SHARING
PERSONAL HOUSEHOLD ITEMS
You should not
share dishes, drinking glasses, cups, eating utensils, towels, or bedding with
other people in your home. After using these items, they should be washed
thoroughly with soap and water.
MONITOR YOUR
SYMPTOMS
Seek prompt medical
attention if your illness is worsening (e.g., shortness of breath or difficulty
breathing). Before seeking care, call your healthcare provider and tell
them that you have, or are being evaluated for, 2019-nCoV infection. Put on a
facemask before you enter the facility. These steps will help the healthcare provider’s
office to keep other people from getting infected or exposed. Ask your
healthcare provider to call the local or state health department. Persons who
are placed under active monitoring or facilitated self-monitoring should follow
instructions provided by their local health department or occupational health
professionals, as appropriate.
DISCONTINUING HOME
ISOLATION
Patients with
confirmed 2019-nCoV infection should remain under home isolation precautions
until the risk of secondary transmission to others is thought to be low. The
decision to discontinue home isolation precautions should be made on a
case-by-case basis, in consultation with healthcare providers and state and
local health departments. Current information on 2019-nCoV is limited; thus,
home precautions are conservative and based on general recommendations for
other coronaviruses, like Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).
DO’S
AND DON’T;S
DO’s
Observe good
personal hygiene
Practice frequent
hand washing with soap
Follow respiratory
etiquettes — cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing
Wear a mask if you
have respiratory symptoms such as cough or running nose
Cover your mouth
while coughing or sneezing
Seek medical
attention promptly
If you feel sick on
a flight while traveling back to India:
Inform the airline
crew about illness
Seek a mask
Avoid close contact
with family members or fellow travelers
Follow the
directions of airline crew while disembarking
If you feel sick on
a flight or at the time of disembarkation:
Report to airport
health authorities/immigration
Follow the direction
of the airport health officer
If you feel sick

Avoid travel to
farms, live animal markets or where animals are slaughtered.
Avoid crowded places unless absolutely necessary as a safety measure
If it's not an
emergency, meetings should be held online to avoid direct contact.
